Our mission at the San Antonio Area Chapter is a vital one. First, we help families and communities across 23 South Central Texas counties prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. A fire or flood is a devastating occurrence for any family. Our volunteer Disaster Action Teams provide emergency assistance to those affected by home or apartment fires, tornadoes, floods and man made disasters as well, twenty-four hours a day. They also provide a warm heart to offer hope and a helpful hand to hold.
Second, we equip our neighbors with lifesaving knowledge and skills through our training courses so they can respond in the event of cardiac arrest, serious injury or accident. In addition, our volunteers provide first aid support at major public events and conduct community safety presentations to hundreds of local groups.
Finally, our Service to Armed Forces volunteers and staff provide assistance and a compassionate response to those serving in the military and to those who love them here at home. In this era of increased military action, deployment and activation of reserve and guard units, our services to the military are critical. They provide a comforting arm around a shoulder and a sensitive ear for the family of a fallen soldier. We serve our heroes and their families through our efforts at local military installations and hospitals.
